BMW
BMW is an acronym for Bayerische Motoren Werke AG -- or  Bavarian Motor Works. The German-based company is one of the world's most respected automakers, renowned for crafting luxury cars and SUVs that offer superior levels of driving enjoyment.
Audi
Audi entered the German car-manufacturing business in 1910. Because Audi's founder, August Horch, had left a 10-year-old company bearing his own name, he chose a Latin form of his name -- Audi -- for his new company.
Porche
Professor Ferdinand Porsche founded the company called "Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche GmbH" in 1930 in the center of Stuttgart. The first Porsche, the Porsche 64, was developed in 1939 using many components from the VW Beetle.
VW
Volkswagen was originally founded in 1937 by the Nazi trade union, the German Labour Front (Deutsche Arbeitsfront). In the early 1930s German auto industry was still largely composed of luxury models, and the average German rarely could afford anything more than a motorcycle.
